Inglourious Analysis.
Fuck this movie! I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that. The truth is I really enjoyed….*siigghhhh*….Quentin Tarantino’s latest “reference collage” as I refer to them. But Inglorious Basterds is pretty close to a film and a pretty good one. I will start with what I believe to be its flaws.
It seems as though it was written by focusing on the most important scenes and disregarding an intelligent way of leading into them. It’s almost like a formula. A few characters, usually two, enter a room, have an intense conversation, discover each other’s motives, there is a Mexican standoff and most or all of said people end up dead. Rinse and repeat. Well-written these scenes may be, but clumsily put together. Also, I am no fan of Eli Roth, of his directing career or his acting career or his MySpace career. Every scene he was in I was holding my breath hoping he would deliver his lines well, but I cringed every time. I enjoyed his character but I don’t think he was the right choice. I have no other complaints as far as casting. Flawless choices. Overall I’m just ecstatic by how much I enjoyed the film. I try hard not to give Quentin too much credit but I have to. It feels like so much work went into it, it feels epic, like an alternate historical timeline that is far more interesting than the reality. It’s all a tense build up to one of the most glorious and satisfying endings I’ve ever seen. i just giggled and said
“yyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeessssssssssss”
I felt like a man.
As far as things I appreciated….
